Alternatives to Typical Path as a result of Crisis

I imagine this topic was posted at some point in time, but I was unable to find anything on it. I, like many undergraduates, was and still am aspiring to work in the investment banking division for a BB bank. However, now that a few of the biggest players are gone, and with citi hanging on for dear life, I have come to the realization that getting a job with the remaining BB banks will be nearly impossible. I am still interested in the field and hope to enter it as soon as I am accepted. In the meanwhile, I was curious if people had any ideas for alternatives for summer internships that are related to the field and could help down the line. I thought working for the Fed would be a cool and interesting alternative, but was hoping people could shed some light on this for me. Thanks, much appreciated.

Nowadyas MBA and PhD will be the alternative choice

I think that under the circumtances like this, choose MBA or PhD will be a better idea. After graduation, the crisis would pass and fine a job in IB or consulting field.

I wouldn't

suggest MBA/PhD straight out of undergrad. You usually need 3-5 years of relevant experience anyways.

Getting a job is first on your priority list, and it's even better if you can land one in a bank (since you'd like to work in one)

Honestly, get a job, get paid, stick it through, develop relationships, network, learn, and enjoy our life. Even take a vacation!

I am lucky that I am clinging to my offer for dear life (back office finance shenanigans at a top UK bank)..but if i didn't find a job, i wouldn't worry and would probably borrow some $ from my parents and go overseas to chill.

best of luck to you!
