Need a definitive answer - Carlyle
Does anyone know FOR SURE whether Carlyle currently hires out of undergrad for its real estate practice in D.C. Ive heard yes and no. But I'd like to get an answer from someone for sure.
Wachovia Pay
Does Wachovia pay the same bonuses across the board regardless of location for its IBD? I know NYC is in line with JPM, but is this just for NYC? Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Wachovia/AG Edwards merger
What do you all think this deal will mean for the IB, research, CM, and instuitional divisions for AG Edwards?
Also, anybody care to add their analysis of the impact the pairing will have on Richmond and St Louis?
CFA Jobline Bank
This is perhaps more applicable to the investment management world, but do any CFA's know what kind of job postings are in the CFA Job Bank? In other words are there jobs in there that someone of a more entry level would be qualified for, since you either need to be a member for pay to access it?
Lateral pre-MBA from consulting to ib
I am wondering if anyone has examples or thoughts of a possible lateral from M/B/B analyst w/ 2 years exp to an IB (specifically lev fin) analyst program.
Would you be expected to already have hard skills relative to finance (ie: modeling, valuation, excel mastery) or would you be brought along like a campus-hire analyst?
Recognize could go from consulting to MBA to associate at i-bank, but would like to hear about this option, as well...
Banking for Bankers in NYC
OK, OK, I know the issue has been discussed before. But just to give the new entrants in this forum a shot at this discussion and to refresh my own memory.
What savings/checking accounts is good, especially if you live and work MIDTOWN.(easy transfers, LOTS of ATMS etc)
So far I liked HSBC direct and CITI.
What are my chances for getting an interview for s&t?
Electrical Engineering/History double major
target ivy school
courses in probability, stochastic processes
fluency/proficiency in multiple languages (two Asian, two European)
SAT >1550
BUT a rather low GPA (below 3.0)
I think I could and would do well IF given the opportunity for an interview. My main concern is that I would be automatically screened out because of my low GPA.
Realistically what are my chances for getting a first interview?
Various Questions From Various Subjects
First off, let me apologize for the vague forum topic. I had a couple of questions that I don't feel need to be addressed in separate topics. That being said, my questions are:
1. Do most BB firms utilize CapitalIQ? If so, to what end goal? Are they pulling comps, charting firms against indices, obtaining multiples, viewing financial statements etc? Please don't answer this with all of the above. If there are other reasons Capital IQ is used, please include them.
Promotion time line
This is a rather simple question, but I can't find the answer.
I know analyst is usually a 2-3 year stint, but how long is everyone usually associate, avp,vp,director,md, etc for before being promoted (and what percent generally get promoted at the higher levels), and what are the pay rates for vp and beyond (I've heard widely different figures, so either people are full of crap, or is it reall
Offer.
Who is the MAIN person to help secure this during the summer? My MD, my analyst, HR, analysts in other divisions, or the group as a whole?
If you say some dumb stuff your first day (forget someones name, etc), will hard work suffice to bump you into the game again? Also, should you go out every night if some analysts invite you every night?
Calling all current Lev Fin bankers
I'm going to be starting on the Lev Fin desk at a BB in August, and I just wanted to ask anyone out there on iboasis who is or has worked on a Lev Fin desk to give a general sense of how the work day unfolds, common pitfalls for anaylsts, and things one can do to prepare for the job (in terms of reading, psychologically, etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. And please no noob shit from sophomore wannabes who've read a vault guide.
Horrible hours? Why not hire more?
This might be a very naive Q but I have been pondering for a while...if there is so much work to get done by analysts, why don't banks hire more ppl??? I think analysts would be happy to loose half of their bonus or even more, if they could get out by 8pm, or something like that. 60k is still very competitive for a 22 year old. Thoughts???
Questions on Analyst Training at BB in London
I was wondering if someone could clarify some of the questions I had about the IBD training program at a BB in London ?
- What do analysts wear during the training program ? Are people in suits ?
- Are there a lot of assignments and tests during the training program ?
- How useful is the analyst IBD training program ? Or is the real learning done on job ?
- What are the timings ? Is it usually 9 - 6 pm ?
Exit Ops for CBO (CDO/CLO) Structuring?
Does anyone know anyone who has gone from CBO structuring to another area?
Given the skillset, what are the logical exit opportunities? For either the buy- or sellside. Does it lend itself to any trading? Sales? CDO management on the buyside?
Please be as specific as possible. Is it a valuable skillset? Ive had some ppl say it'd be hard to go into IBD from structuring, for example.
bonuses
I was wondering if anybody could tell me the usual yearly bonus for 1st year Morgan Stanley employees in the operations department?
private company research?
what's the best way to research private companies? especially for doing things like m&a comps?
Do I have a chance at BB?
I go to a lower ranked state public school. I messed up two semesters which lowered my GPA quite significantly. I can realistically graduate around a 3.75. I am double majoring in Management Information Systems and Finance. If I work at an branch office for a smaller firm for my Jr and Sr year as well as an internship somewhere else during the summer before my Sr year, what are my odds at a BB firm for an investment banking analyst?

some "target" clarrification
I know there is already too much of this on here, so i apologize, but does anyone want to go through what they think are the top ten undergrad feeders for bbs trading desks? I know it would vary by major and desk, but for a normal finance business, average trader, not a quant but still smart....you know what i mean..
So:
Mit
wharton
berkeley
?

How important is having programming skiils in S&T today?
I hear that since trading is shifting more and more to the quantitative side, a comp sci background is essential?

Credit Suisse NYC
hi,
1. how's the firm reputation?
2. interview styles, if anyone went through it for 1st year analyst? (round by round)
3. any tips at all?
thanks in advance!
What looks worse...asking for work and screwing it up slightly or just not even asking for work?
I'm wondering, what looks worse.... Asking for work and screwing it up slightly when you have just started or not even asking for work. I've started my internship just last week and obviously am still learning the ropes about the organization of our files, etc... and today got a bit of a lecture about taking more time to look over stuff and ask questions if I need help.
I'm thinking showing initiative and obviously improving your work over time would be the best way to go about doing tasks.
