Need Help
So here’s my situation. I’m a sophomore at a non-target school and my overall GPA is a 3.4 (Major GPA 4.0). I’m working on a BS in Econ and a minor in accounting. I couldn’t land an intern this summer and pretty upset about it. Basically I need advices on what to do this summer and in the future to help me get into IB. Would anyone recommend pursuing a MA in Econ, if worst comes to worst?
Capital markets, anyone?
There are a lot of discussion about IBD here -- anyone thought about capital markets? Compare to IBD, capital markets have 1) more stable hours 2) similar pay (10k lower?). But it seems that capital markets positions aren't as popular as IBD -- exit opp. not as good? What do capital markets analysts do after two years? will appreciate your input, thanx.
Resume mistake
Sorry clogging, but a friend of mine is stressing out, and I need some reassurance as proof that he should not be. Basically, he got a summer BB and is very excited. Yet, he noticed a couple days ago that his resume has a small mistake. Under the dates for a certain activity, or place he worked, he wrote the wrong date. For example, instead of working there, or participating in, 1998 it was 1999. Everything else, including time spent and what he did is the same.
DCF WACC Question
Hopefully you guys can help me. I am trying to value a company that issued debt at two different interest rates at the same time (ex: issued a 2 yr note today @ 8% and a 5 yr bond today @ 6%). Do I have to calculate a different WACC for each year in the DCF based on the amount of debt outstanding ((D/(D+E)) and the new cost of equity with a different levered beta? And then multiply year 2's WACC by year 1's instead of just squaring the year 1 WACC for the WACC for year 2...
Suits Made in HK/China
I'll be in China and Hong Kong and am thinking of getting tailored shirts and suits. Is there anything I should know? How big is the diff. between Chinese tailors and HK tailors?
Another survey
As there isn't much going on at work. We done another one of our surveys. this time it was on type of legs we like on women. Most of the guys preferred nice calfs to thighs. There was a good percentage of guys who preferred thick thighs on their women. I don't mind either if it goes with the body but there is a fine line between thick and fat.
From IB to trading
Can you make the move from IB or Capital markets to trading. Or is it a different skill set. I know one guy who was in M&A then moved into equity prop desk and they wanted an individual who could deveelop models and value companies. If you are in DCM or ECM can it also merit such a move.
JPMorgan no M&A group?
JPM in Asia doesn't have a separate m&a/execution group, just wondering if this is a firm wide thing around the world? thx
Why do PE firms like masters students?
Are they looking for people who are capable of grad level research, or for people with specific industry expertise?
What other websites?
Just curious as to what other websites people here check on a daily/semiregular basis. I'm sure the inevitable pornsite jokes will be following shortly but I'd like to know what other resources people use for news, information, entertainment
DealMaven vs Training The Street Online Courses
I'm a sophomore, and failed to land any type of i-banking or corporate finance SA position. To make something productive of my summer, I'm planning on taking either the Deal Maven Applied Financial Modeling e-course or the Training The Street Corporate Valuation Training. Does anyone have any experience with either of these programs? Also, would these carry enough weight in an interview or on my resume to make it worth my time? Thanks.
Vault guide to S&T
Hi,
has anybody read the Vault guide to Sales & Trading? Is it worth the money?
I only have internship experience in IB so I'm looking for a way to brush up on the basics for my upcoming trading internship this summer. I have already ordered the Hull book (still shipping) and I have read the Vault Guide to Finance Interviews (very very good) and the guide to IB (soso).
I-Bankers Do You Have Time to Wack Off?
So do you i-bankers who only get 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night even bother jerking off anymore or its not worth the time and missing a minute more of sleep?
Preparation materials?
So there are Wall Street Prep, Dealmaven, etc for people who wanna know more about IBD (modeling), are there any equivalent in Sales and Trading? Just wondering. Thanks in advance.

Job titles
Diffrent banks have different titles for employees.
I met one guy with a title executive and I didnt quite know what he did. Looked young so asked if was an analyst. Turned out he was a second year analyst so was called a executive. These titles really don't mean anything anymore do they. Some banks have Associate Directors which i think are equivelent to VP. MD, Assistant Director, executive director, AVP, VP.
New Hires
It's been quite for the last few weeks at work. Not a hot dame insight. I have been told the new analyst class will be joining in about a month. Met two of them one guy and a girl. Unfortunately she isn't a looker, neither are any of the other girls joining i have been told by employees who met them.
Though I have been told by an associate that the corporate markets team has hired a couple of employees and there is a leggy associate joining and the other one is just avg.

I'm a little nervous...do you guys think it will be a formal interview (even though it doesn't seem like it)? should I do anything special to prepare beforehand? anny other tips? thanks alot
Any Mid-Market I-Bankers on here?
Anyone on this board doing i-banking at a MM place like Wachovia, Jeffries, England & Company, FBR, etc.? Do people only go to these places if they cannot land an I-banking gig at a BB or is that not the case at all?
Dealing with your same level colleagues who are worthless, lazy, cocky, etc?
How do you guys deal with fellow colleagues who are worthless idiots lucky enough to have connections that got them the job?
Have you ever complained to your boss (I feel that would be wrong)? How do you deal?
I just experienced the most $@% up bull$#!$ this morning from this dumbass colleague of mine.
Free traders' spreadsheet?
Hi all,
I've been trading some FX on a game just for fun (breaks up revision nicely), but would like to keep a record of my trades and analyse how I'm doing.
Rather than start from scratch in excel, thought I should ask if anyone knows where I can get hold of any such spreadsheet template for free?
At the moment, the game can output transaction history, p/l etc., so all i'd need to do is write a macro to convert the data into the required format (i.e correct columns etc.) and i'd have saved a lot of time.
Bear Stearns Ops
Does anyone have any knowledge, experience, or advice about Bear Stearns operations training programs?
