Put my Fraternity in my Resume?

Hey, I'm a brother of the Sigma Chi fraternity. I was wondering if it's beneficial to include it in my Resume or is it just fluff?

How about being in the President's Honor Roll? Important or fluff?

CDs vs savings

Looking at Bankrate.com, it seems that most savings accounts offer 5% or above, whereas CDs offer less than 5%. I always thought CDs were a better investment than to keep your money in the savings accounts. Am I missing something here?

Those of who are not Investing Ninjas, and don't want to risk that bonus earned by so much blood and tears, what do you do with your money? Money Market? Do you at all get anytime to manage your money?

the wage calculator just made me really sad...

i just realized even if you make like 200 000 with bonuses but work 100 hours a week thats like 40 bucks an hour. So whats the point of doing it?

Interview Situation Help!

This has come up a couple times in my interviews, and I do not know how to handle it. I have looked over a ton of brainteasers now and every so often I get one in an interview that I have heard before, and therefore have the answer memorized.... So whenever I answer it, is it better to just sit there and think about it for a few seconds before answering, which makes it seem like I have never heard of it before and came up with it with my own logic, or is it ok to answer immediately and therefore risk the interviewer knowing that I already had this one memorized and therefore they might throw another one out there?

Resume Book From Summer... Top 3 BB

Just so that people that have been looking at MisInd thread don't get discouraged by thinking they wouldn't get into banking because of their gpa.
I'm going to type every GPA and not skip any page so that everyone would have a good feel about where they stand.

What to do in the summer....

So I bought the self-study program from Wall Street Prep and just had some questions about that and about this upcoming summer.

For people that have used WSP.... about how long does it take to learn everything? Also, besides taking summer courses to bump up my gpa, enjoying my last free summer or learning golf(all of which i'll be doing). What else could I possibly do before the start of my sophomore year to help me land an internship in 2nd/3rd year?

West Coast v. East Coast

I'm doing an internship at a top (if not the top) West Coast IBD office. Assuming that I do well enough to get a full time offer, I'd be perfectly happy to accept right away. However, some of my friends think that I should leverage this to go to NY even if I had to go to the "next best" bank. Other friends, however, think that my bank's name should transcend any regional bias. What should be my plan A at this point?

MD vs. Executive Director

This may be a dumb question but please excuse my ignorance. What is the difference between an Executive Director and Managing Director? Thanks.

After finishing BB analyst stint and exiting to PE, HF, VC does pay skyrocket?

I hear all these people on the board going head over heels about the famed "exit opportunities" that so many people mention.

Once you complete your two year analyst position at a BB and successfully exit into either PE, HF, or VC do you automatically start making around $250,000 in your third year and do you reach the annual seven figure income much sooner than you would if you stayed at the BB

Living Outside of NYC

I will be starting as a full-time analyst at a BB in July in NY, and was not planning on renting an apartment in the city. My family lives in New Jersey, and it takes me an hour door-to-door to commute in the morning. I know a 2nd year analyst at the same bank whose been commuting, and he seems to be doing fine.

I have friends who'll be living in the city as well, who are willing to let me stay over if necessary. For the really late nights at work, I figure that I could just take a nap in the office.

Background Check Related Question

As far as I understand, background check entails referencing past employers about the candidate. I was wondering what might raise a "red flag" for HR? I assume there is a difference between getting in physical fight with co-workers and using a cell phone during work. Any thoughts on this?

How do you explain what you do for a living?

So I just got a summer IB position, but I'm from a non-target school and live in the midwest...so basically no one I know actually knows what the hell an investment banker is. When people ask what I will be doing, I just have a long, drawn-out speech as to what an investment bank actually is.

Anyone have a good one or two sentence explanation as to what they do when asked?

Barclays taking over ABN AMRO

Barclays taking over ABN AMRO

Hey, i've got a couple of questions regarding the takeover. So any input will be great.

1) How likely will this happen and how long will it take?

2) What will happen to the Sales and Trading Department in ABN? Coz i'm scheduled to start S&T as an analyst later this year... Will the whole Ibank part of ABN be liquidated or will the fat trimming affect me?

Drug Test Methods at BBs

I smoke a lot of pot, but now i have obviously stopped for my drug test. i am expecting a urine test, which i will pass with flying colors, but is there a possibility of a hair test (which i will fail)

Please take these post seriously. I need specifics and only serious advice. This is my life here!

unable to see new forum topics in some areas of site

nychimp, I'm sure this is just a glitch, but the "New forum topics" box disappears when looking at the main menu screen, as well as while in the "I-Banking Discussion" section. The box does still appear while browsing other areas of the site though. just thought I'd let you know, thanks for the work you do on this great site.

ECM vs DCM ibanking

Any difference in pay/hours/prestige/exit ops?

Just landed an MS gig...what to do?

Hey All,

I've been reading posts on this forum and have found them particularly helpful. In fact, it is because of IBoasis that I started valuing the usefulness of networking early on which led me to land an SA position with a BB this summer...so for this I say thanks to you all!

But excessive networking has kind of put me in a tough position. I was recently talking to an alum of my school who is a top top (in fact, huge)shot at MS. We established rapport quickly and he asked about my summer plans. I told him about my offer for the summer with a BB and he was thoroughly impressed as I am only a freshman...(and a from a non-target too...so to all it can be done!)

Ranks & Hours

Quick question, to which I couldn't find the answer with search.

I hear this stuff about analysts and associates working 70-120 hours and such, week in, week out. When do you work normal hours? As a VP? Never?

Do people do this for a career, or just as a stepping stone, then leave? I can't imagine anyone putting up with this for more than 10 years, if that.

Also, separate question...how difficult is it to get to VP?

Missing 1 Day of Training

I've got an IBD internship this summer that starts a couple of days before my sister's high school graduation. Do you think I'd be able to get 1 day off during training to go back home for it?
