S&T interview when IBD is the real interest...
As a non-target, its hard enough to get interviews let alone be picky about what you get. With that said, I am interested in IBD - that is what I want to do. However, I may only get a few cracks at it.
I got a call back for an S&T Summer Analyst interview. I am not that keen on being a trader, but I think I should at least pursue it... I'd be most interested in a structuring role, so maybe I'll inquire about those desks on the interview...
Goldman Sachs IBD Superday
Has anyone been through it yet? Any idea on what questions to expect?
Do they still tend to ask behavioral/fit questions, or is it mostly technical at this point (assuming I've had a previous summer in banking, and have some valuation/modeling stuff on there)?
Should I be expecting any "Tell me about a time when you..." type of questions?
What will the format be like (1 on 1? 2 on 1? How many interviews?)
Seattle Firms?
Anyone know of any consulting firms located in Seattle?
Lakeside Partners..any good?
SAT scores in interview
Although it doesn't seem common in banking, I have had numerous hedge funds ask me for my SAT score during interviews (apparently this happens with consulting also). I understand they are looking for a measure of intelligence, but those scores are 4-5 years old!
my question is, can they actually verify old SAT scores? I mean, i don't even know how i would go about finding my old scores (i only remember total, not breakdown). Is this just a ridiculous question that you can lie for?

"Office Visit"
Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone could provide some advice on what to or what not to do.
Myself and a group of students from my school were invited to attend an "office visit" at a Chicago investment bank this weekend. It will basically consist of presentations from members of each group, some Q&A sessions, and a lunch. What are some of the things I should do to get the most out of this experience?
Blackstone(BAAM) vs. ML IB vs.MS Energy IB vs GS PWM
Guys, assuming all goes well and I were to get full time offers from these firms(dont have a division for ML IB yet) which would give best exit ops, best b school(HWS) chances, and highest pay during analyst stint? Blackstone would be for their Hedge Fund of Funds. Anyone have actual numbers for MS and Blackstone(do they get paid same as Bstone PE)?
Please educated comments only.
Transfers after 1st Year...How common is it?
Specificially interested in BBs. How common are transfers after 1st year as an analyst? I know people who have done it, but is it pretty rare? Is is looked down upon? Is it difficult? Any thoughts?
% Final Round -> Offers?
Usually for investment banking what percentage of Final Round candidates are given offers?
Applying for multiple positions at the same company
Would this be alright or would Human Resources just throw away both applications. Do companies realize that some people are just trying to get ANY position at the company in order to get their foot in the door in investment banking?
25 most intriguing hedge funds?
Here's the link:
http://www.hedgefundreader.com/2007/01/the_25_most_int.html
The list feels very "I just googled 'hedge fund' and this is what came up." Some of the asset managers aren't even hedge funds in any real sense. Geronimo Financial (#17) operates publicly traded mutual funds for one.
Thoughts?
Best School
What master's program would be best for someone wanting to get a Master's in Real Estate? I know USC has a good program, and UWISC, but what are some other ones? That don't require work experience.
what if
What if I had quit a job that I was working this semester because I was too busy, but it was on my resume prior to me quitting? How do I handle any questions given to me by BB banks and what if I already had an interview before I quit the job? Do they do a check to see if I am still working there? And the job I quit got a little pissed because I left so abruptly. How does all of this affect me getting a job at a bank (assuming all else equal about my grades, etc.) Basically I am wondering how extensive does HR go into my previous employment.
Hedge fund interview coming up
I have a hedge fund interview coming up for a part-time internship and I have no idea what to expect. Are they anything like banking interviews??
Goldman Sach Firmwide E-Business
Hi All,
Looking for info on GS Firmwide E-business group. Can anyone provide any info on what they do? How successful are they? What the internal attitude towards the group? Thanks
Answering the "what other banks" question
I just got a first round for summer at Lehman (non target w/o a referrer) and one of the questions they ask me in the e-mail before the actual interview is what other banks I'm interviewing with. I've applied to a couple with referrals, who let my referrers know that they start contacting referrals only in late-February. I expect to get interviews from at least a couple of these referrals, but does it look awful to tell Lehman that I'm not interviewing anywhere else for sure as of yet?
Posting on iBO - Compliance/Legal Issues?
For all the bankers out there:
I know a lot of you post while you at work, and was just wondering whether you can face any legal/compliance issues over this. Does the compliance department monitor every website you visit, and everything you say online, or do they not care as long as you're not browsing porn, etc. online?
Can they ever fire you based on something you post on here? Would your firm care that you visit this site?
hsbc final rounds
anyone here familiar with hsbc's final rounds? anything i should watch out for?
Scared
Hi everyone.
Let me introduce myself: I'm a senior at Wesleyan and I will be joining a Bulge Bracket in July 2007.
I have a few questions regarding bonuses for analysts. I know a first year analyst at a different Bulge Bracket and she says that bonus numbers should increase this year. Correct me if I am wrong, but bonus numbers were 60,000-80,000 for first year analysts a year ago right? She said she is expecting 70,000-90,000 this year.
Using Goldman Ops. internship for future front-office internship at different BB
Is it possible that if you had an internship with Goldman Sachs in operations, it would be looked upon favorably if you are applying for a future internship the following summer for a Corp. Finance, S&T or Research position at a different Bulge Bracket?
Your opinion on what group to aim for...
I'll be starting at a BB Ibank this summer and I am debating between a product group (specifically Lev Fin) or an industry group (specifically health-care).. I know the typical pro's and con's of each group but I was wondering what your sentiments were.
Thanks!
