College ---> Corporate World transition
I was hoping some people could tell how they coped with the process.
Transitioning from Law to Ibanking
Hey folks, just wondering if anyone here have any thoughts on transitioning from law to ibanking. Do you guys have any collegues who have done so? Is working 3-4 years at a top-5 firm enough to land a senior associate position?
How big do you think your bonuses will be in February 2007?
This may have been covered previously, but does anyone have a good idea of what bonuses will be like in February 2007 (isn't that when full bonuses are paid?) for 1st-year post-MBA associates?
Consulting Internships
Are consulting internships hard to come by?
Would it be possible to find an internship during the school semester?
You all have a lot of growing up to do...
I register just to post this. I read through these posts and could not get over how immature many of them were. I was in banking from 1996-1998 and have since moved on in my career. I see so much talk about private equity/hedge funds making millions and retiring, it makes me feel like this board is made up soley of freshman college kids who have never worked a day in their lives. Let me give you some facts that might make you all rethink being able to retire at 35.
Lehman Securitization Banking
How competitive is it to get a job in this group (vs. general IBD)?
Also, how are the pay (i.e. bonus) and exit opps?
Thanks.
Using Crystal Ball for Monte Carlo
Anyone ever use the Crystal Ball program for pricing path-dependent options?
Having trouble with an assignment due tomorrow, and if anyone is familiar with it, I'd like to pick your brain. Thanks.
Does BBs hire analysts that are married?
Hi..just wondering whether marital status affect one's candidacy, especially for female. Does this matter to BBs?
How many % of analyst are married?
Greenhill & Co Question
Anyone familiar with Greenhill? They are working on some monster deals with the LSE/Nasdaq mandate, Abbot Labs/Kos Pharma, and Visa (rolling up USA, CDA, and INTL) - how does this translate to quality of life issues (end of year bonus, working hours & flexibility, relevancy of first year analyst duties?) How do you see them comparing to others in their space, ie. Evercore, Gleacher, Lazard, etc.?
What is the best way we could improve iBankingOasis.com?
Public Finance / Munis Compensation?
Anybody here know what compensation is like for Public Finance at the associate level? I'm also interested in culture and hours as well. Thanks!
Advocates for Global Warming
Face it, being Investment Bankers most of us are forced to deal with the Cold weather of NYC and Chicago. But why settle for that? The answer is, it doesn't have to be so damn cold. All we have to do is pollute so that our atmosphere will turn into a greenhouse and conserve the heat. Just imagine, instead of trudging up the icy walk to work everyday in sub-zero weather, with snow blowing in your face, the sun is out, a nice seventy degree breeze gently ruffles your hair as you stroll up to work with your sunglasses on. Let's speed up this "global warming" thing (if it even exists.. ha!)...
NYchimp, can I please get my name and points back?
Can you let me sign in to Dan Bush? My password won't work anymore.
Section 529
Does this make sense for a starting analyst to open up for MBA or waste of time/money. I am hoping to do 3/3 analyst to associate lateral. Thoughts?
Picking a group
Starting in IB next summer, any advice on selecting an industry/product group? How much does it matter? Does it change exit opportunities?
Piper Jaffray
Any thoughts on their IBD, in terms of exit ops, top groups, pay, and experience?
I am interviewing with them next week, so any comments are much appreciated...
paying for Business school
This might be a stupid question but do any of the bulge brackets pay for you to go to business school with the understanding that you will come back to the firm as an associate?
Thanks.
Straight Out of College to HBS?
I am a Wharton Undergraduate Senior with a 3.7 and a 770 GMAT. I've got good leadership experience in college, and have had i banking and law firm summer internships before.
What's it gonna take to get me into HBS this year?
I've heard that they get 9000 apps, for about 1000 admit spots. I have also heard that only 150 college seniors apply, and that about 20 are taken.
I gotta figure my odds now are as good as they're going to get.
Resume advice needed
Hi can anyone of you experienced bankers clear a doubt about my resume. I am in the first year of college, but I have a lot of transfer credit so after this semester i will actually have sophomore credits and will be a sophomore. this means that i will be graduating in May,2009 if i just do a major in Computer Science. Now do you think it is appropriate for me to write my expected graduation date as May,2009 (which it actually is) or am I still not eligible to apply for internships meant for rising juniors.
Becoming a Landlord
I've officially become a landlord. Good god.
Did all of you have to submit to a credit check before renting out your pads in NYC? How much of a security deposit were you charged, 1 month or more?
I'm renting out my 2 bedroom condo to two engineering school grads. I like the kids, they seem alright... just want to be sure I'm covering everything I need to.
Your own investments
Has being in the financial services industry (more specifically IB) made you a better investor? What did you learn as an analyst or associate that would have taken you longer to understand had you not taken the job you took?
What do you do differently when picking your investments that you never would have done prior to working in financial services?
Cost of Capital
I had a phone interview yesterday and the guy asked me a question I had no clue about. The question was how does current liabilities effect the cost of capital calculation. The answer I gave was that if a firm has a lot of short term debt it would add to the cost of capital, but it would be cheaper than long term debt. I think I fcuk it up.
